1/35 German Tractor RSO/01

Tamiya is pleased to announce the German RSO/01 with completely new moldings in the 1/35 Military Miniature Series.

Developed during World War II, the Raupenschlepper Ost (RSO) was designed as a rugged German tractor capable of operating in harsh environments such as deep snow and muddy terrain on the Eastern Front. Its simple yet highly effective design featured a front-mounted 3,517cc V8 gasoline engine producing 70 horsepower, paired with a 4-speed transmission. Power was transferred to the rear sprockets via a propeller shaft, giving the vehicle excellent mobility over difficult ground.

The first production version, the RSO/01, featured a distinctive rounded pressed-steel cabin. Wide 60cm tracks provided outstanding traction and allowed the vehicle to traverse snow-covered roads and rough terrain with ease. Production began in October 1942, and from the following spring onward, the cabin floor was raised by approximately 30mm to improve clearance over the tracks in snowy conditions.

Reliable and versatile, the RSO served in a variety of frontline roles including artillery towing, cargo transport, and supply duties, becoming an indispensable support vehicle for German forces during the war.
