'AC Cobra founded Carroll Shelby's reputation as a brilliant sports car designer. In the early 60s for the AC Cobra, he took the two-seat British sports car AC Ace and implanted a 4.7 litre V8 engine from Ford into it. The result was a thoroughbred racing car with brutal acceleration. In 1964 it set a speed record for street legal vehicles of 293 km/h.
