'In order to meet the operational requirements for example in Afghanistan, the heavy transport helicopter of the German Federal Armed Forces received an extensive refit to increase its combat effectiveness. Among other things these machines - renamed CH-53 GSG received an EloKa system for defence against anti-aircraft missiles as well as an increased range in conjunction with their night low-flying capability and terrain-independent navigation.
